Céim, Curriculum & Classroom Practice, GCE Conference, 16 June 2026

Please save the date for our upcoming no-fee conference and training event hosted by the DICE Project at Maynooth University in June 2026. This event will bring together teacher educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to explore Curriculum, Céim and Change in GCE.

The event will examine:

  • Innovative and effective approaches to deliver high-quality GCE in Teacher Education

  • Teacher Education research and practice aligned with Ireland’s Renewed Curriculum 

  • Approaches to advancing Global Citizenship Education (GCE) in ITE.

Key highlights include:

  • Keynote addresses from leading practitioners and teacher educators
  • Parallel sessions showcasing teacher education research, case studies and examples of good practice
  • Workshops and discussions on the role of GCE within Ireland’s evolving curriculum landscape.

  • Submission deadline: 7 April 2026
  • Acceptance notifications issued: 25 April 2026
Themes for Submission
We welcome contributions that address (but are not limited to) in both research and examples of practice:
1.  Céim, Curriculum & Classroom Practice
  • How the curriculum changes are being interpreted and enacted
  • Practical examples of GCE embedded within new curricular structures
  • Teacher agency and professional judgement under Céim and Curriculum
2. GCE in the Renewed Primary Curriculum
  • Approaches to global citizenship, sustainability, equity, and diversity
  • Opportunities for interdisciplinary learning (e.g., Wellbeing, Modern Languages, Arts Education, STEM, SEE, patrons’ programmes)
  • Classroom resources, methodologies, and assessment strategies
3. Teacher Educator Professional Learning
  • What primary teachers need to enact GCE effectively
  • Reflective approaches to GCE within the new curriculum
  • Initial teacher education and CPD in a time of curriculum change
4. Policy, Leadership, and System Change
  • Impacts of curriculum reform on teacher educator planning
  • Solidarity and leadership for GCE in ITE
  • National and international perspectives on curriculum change and citizenship education

Presentation Formats
  • Individual Papers including both research and practice based exemplars(20 minutes: 15 + 5 Q&A)
  • Short “Educator Voices” Presentations (8–10 minutes; classroom-focused)
  • Student Teacher Poster Presentations (reflections on GCE electives, dissertation findings and school placement exemplars)

  • 3–5 keywords
